About

Thanks for stopping by. Read below to learn more about me and my background.

Background

Hi, James Thompson here. With a foundation as a full-stack and UI/UX software engineer, I've built my career across multiple disciplines. Currently, I am building Generative AI and Machine Learning products and applications. I stay curious and always willing to jump in and help where needed.

Professional Journey

My recent focus has been an immersive postgraduate program in AI/ML Business Applications at UT Austin's McCombs School of Business, where I've implemented Machine Learning models and Deep Neural Networks across multiple industries. This work spans recommendation systems utilizing Generative AI, LLMs, ChatGPT, Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, and Data Analytics. Two notable AI projects are the AWS Serverless Benefits Conceirge and the AI Coding Agent projects I developed based on my learnings.

At AT&T working for the Chief Data Office, I single-handedly transformed loosely defined requirements into a 0 to 1 full-stack production application on Azure that eliminated 45+ hours of daily manual processes for 15+ cross-functional teams as part of the multi-year digital transformation initiative. From requirements gathering to security audits, I managed the entire development to production lifecycle.

As Technical Lead for Rackspace Design System, I led a team that created a platform used by 18+ product development teams, saving thousands of developer hours and accelerating go-to-market timelines. My expertise in automated CI/CD pipelines, web technologies, and accessibility guidelines helped establish scalable solutions that delivered measurable business impact. Our collective team of UX designers, developers, DevOps and information architect built Rackspace Design System with Web Components, which are a foundational web platform technology, before they were cool...are they cool yet?!

At Planview, I wore the Sales Engineer hat for two years, juggling multiple responsibilities. I kept our SAFe solution consultants current and productive with major releases and monthly patches for a massive network of 100+ production servers—no small feat! Working alongside 20+ consultants, I became the integration guru for Planview's product suite, connecting the dots for businesses from mid-market players to enterprise giants. My technical toolkit during this time was diverse: from managing and deploying Windows Server technologies to crafting automated test scripts, while utilizing Datadog, SQL Report Server, and Power BI. This wasn't just technical work, as I was essentially the bridge builder ensuring Planview's solutions fit perfectly into our clients' ecosystems by providing client-facing product demos and requirements gathering sessions.
